Swamp Pop Music Night
Ville Platte is the Swamp Pop Capital of the world by an act of the Louisiana legisalture. The city received that honor as a result of a number of factors:
Being the home of JIN records, the label that has luanched the careers of many swmap pop artisits, the home of Floyd's Record Shop which sells more Swamp Pop music than any other music store, the home of the Evangeline Club which featured Swamp Pop artists and the home of KVPI, which has been programming this special music since it first signed on in 1951.
Swamp Pop Music is a term coined by Britsh music critics for that South Louisiana rock' n' roll music of the 1950's and 50's. Ths music has its roots in cajun, counry and New Orleans R & B. Most of the time, the music featured a saxophone and piano triplets. Amonthe artists who performed this type of music were Johnnie Allan, Tommy McLain, Warren Storm and Rod Bernard. Swmap Pop music has sold more records worldwide than all of the Cajun and Zydeco records put together.
