Louisiana Swine Festival

Basile

The La. Swine Festival is held annually the first full weekend in November. Activities actually start the weekend prior to the festival which is when the Pageants are hosted. The festival weekend “kicks off’ the Friday with kiddie day at the fairgrounds and entertainment under the “Pig Barn” in the evening. Saturday morning starts off early with the pork cook-off contest. In the afternoon there is the famous Queen’s boudin eating contests as well as the Queen’s greasy pig chase. There is also a greasy pig chase held for the general public. The evening holds much of the same fun in the “Pig Barn” beginning with live music.  During the evening there is a boudin eating, hog calling, and the ever popular “big tub” contest. Sunday’s activities begin with a Queen’s mass held at the St. Augustine Church. Immediately followed by a street dance with a live band on the main street. At 1:00 p.m. the parade rolls down main street, then it is off to the park for more live entertainment.
